A Modernist Eixample apartment reimagined around its terrace and original features

At the heart of Eixample Esquerra, this dual-aspect apartment in a finca regia combined qualities that have become increasingly rare: generous proportions, a large gallery opening directly onto an almost 40 sq m terrace and, beneath flooring laid decades earlier, a remarkably preserved collection of original hydraulic tiles. Mouldings, ornate ceilings and period joinery completed its exceptional architectural heritage.

We entirely reconsidered the plan so that the terrace would become a natural extension of the living spaces. Two bedrooms were positioned on the street side, freeing the rear of the apartment for an expansive open kitchen, double reception room and gallery. Three bedrooms in total, two of them en suite, together with extensive built-in storage, create a home that combines generous space with contemporary comfort.

The renovation reveals the richness of the existing architecture without overwhelming it. Floors, mouldings and joinery were meticulously restored, while a deliberately light palette allows their colours and patterns to take centre stage. The kitchen, bathrooms, colourful furniture and touches of cane introduce a contemporary sensibility and a subtle Mediterranean influence. Aribau finds its balance between heritage and modernity, with the terrace and original details as the true protagonists.
