Amargós
In the Gòtic, a pied-à-terre blending fine materials with Mediterranean warmth.
In the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, Amargós brings the city’s architectural heritage into dialogue with a softer Mediterranean sensibility. Light flowing through the apartment reveals the tones of oak, the texture of brick and the veining of stone in a warm, golden palette.
The renovation set out to rediscover the qualities of an apartment whose condition had obscured its character. Restored original woodwork, exposed beams and Catalan vaulted ceilings frame an interior reimagined around a generous living space. Opening onto the balcony, the kitchen is an integral part of this gathering place, designed for an owner who loves to entertain.
Bespoke joinery gives the project its distinctive character. Its centrepiece, a large oak bookcase designed specifically for the apartment, defines the living room. In the entrance, curved cabinetry echoes its lines and softens the transition between spaces. Generous built-in storage completes the scheme without weighing down the interior.
Between the bedroom and dressing room, a bespoke steel-framed glass partition adds a more graphic touch. This carefully detailed intervention brings a sense of space to the 55 m² apartment.
Underfoot, chevron oak parquet continues the warmth. Taj Mahal natural stone worktops and travertine, carried through to the wall lights, introduce subtle mineral tones. Materials chosen as much for their beauty as for the pleasure of living with them, in a home that feels elegant, personal and deeply welcoming.
