Rec Comtal
Three windows onto a historic Born street set the rhythm for a complete renovation
In the upper Born, a few minutes from the Arc de Triomf and Parc de la Ciutadella, this approximately 100 sq m apartment possessed an immediate strength: three tall French windows aligned along a historic street, opening onto a balcony and filled with morning light.
We made this luminous façade the starting point of the project, placing the entire living space alongside it. The kitchen opens generously onto the living and dining areas to take full advantage of the three openings and extend the views through the apartment. The original windows were restored, while brick walls, timber beams and Catalan vaults were exposed once again to recover the character of the place.
At the rear, where the floor plan narrows, a precise reorganisation created two genuine double bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom and integrated storage, without compromising the flow of the whole.
Rec Comtal is above all the renovation of a period apartment whose existing qualities we sought to reveal. A more open plan, adapted to contemporary life, enhances the light and proportions, while brick, timber, Catalan vaults and restored joinery continue to tell its story.
