Travessera
A historic Vila de Gràcia apartment reimagined around its original details and terrace
In a period building in Vila de Gràcia, this apartment had survived with most of its original features intact: hydraulic tiles, moulded doors, historic joinery and generous ceiling heights. At the rear, a rare small terrace opening onto greenery already offered a precious escape, despite an interior that remained heavily compartmentalised.
We completely reconsidered the plan to open the apartment and reconnect the living spaces with the terrace. The kitchen, living room and dining area now unfold in a more fluid sequence, while daylight travels more freely from one façade to the other.
The project then focused on revealing the historic character of the home. Floors, doors, windows and mouldings were restored, while the removal of damaged suspended ceilings uncovered the original beams and Catalan vaults.
Travessera de Gràcia is now a deeply Barcelonian interior: more open and contemporary, yet entirely faithful to the qualities that first gave it its charm.
